SUCCESSFUL AUDIT AT WATERY ROAD WREXHAM BY NATURAL RESOURCES WALES

Urban Regen recently successfully completed the treatment of heavily impacted TPH impacted organic soils within a former reservoir as part of the historic Cobden Mill site in Wrexham.

Treatment of 1800m3 of impacted soils was successfully undertaken using stabilization and solidification technology. In conjunction with our sub-contractor Environmental Recovery North Ltd., following initial benchscale tank Test Trials, the optimum mix of reagents was determined to achieve a reduction in leachable TPH levels to meet the target criteria set within the site remediation strategy, developed by Bellway Homes NW Ltd’s Geo-environmental Consultants.

In line with the requirements of the Permitting Regulations 2010, Urban Regen and their partners submitted to Natural Resources Wales (NRW) outlining proposals for the operation of the site treatment incorporating a full risk assessment, environmental mitigation proposals and verification testing/reporting requirements.

In tandem with this, a materials Management Plan was developed, and declared in line with the CL:AIRE Code of Practice to demonstrate the compliant use of recycled / treated materials within the works.

As part of their current policy, and in response to the deployment notice, NRW confirmed their intention to visit site during the treatment operation to assess full management compliance for the deployment.

The NRW team visited site in March 2015, and carried out a full assessment of the treatment process, the operation of the site’s MMP and material tracking records, waste management and disposal records, along with environmental monitoring arrangements.

Siân McGregor-Andrew, Environment Officer (NRW) was very complimentary with regards to the operational controls evident on site and congratulated the team led by Project Manager, Tony Smith and ER Operations Manager, Ian Hadfield.
